“Endure the hard times and do not expect to see big results each day. Rather, make every day a result of the vision you once had.”
Where it all started
My name is Paty Sesma and I am 45 years young. I am living my dream life at the same time I face challenges that push me to grow and succeed. My life story is filled with moments of happiness, successes, laughter, dreams that came true, as well as failures, pain, tears, and very valuable lessons learned. It all started in #Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, #Mexico back in 1975. I was born in this precious yet peculiar city and raised as a #regiomontana. People from Monterrey are called regiomontanos, often shortened to regios. They are a hard-working labor force that sometimes allows them to become wealthy. It is believed that people from Monterrey are very sensitive about money, sometimes considered stingy, and don't like spending easily. However, they also like to live "the Kardashian life" and show it off.
In our family, the in-house education was more drawn towards the modest side, but this wasn't true when it came down to selecting an academic system for us. I am the middle child of a family of five: mom, dad, older sister and younger brother. And as a quick-witted middle child, I grew up feeling misplaced in my circle, getting quickly bored of everything, being as curious as I could be, hungry to learn new things, and a mind so fast that rushed me to project myself with great aspirations towards the future. I attended the best private school in Monterrey, which at that time, the Latin American School of Monterrey, S.C. was the only existing bilingual elementary school in the city. I also earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Informations Sciences from the University of Monterrey, UDEM, which is also a private institution. In Mexico, private education is higher-ranked than the public sector, unfortunately. Yet, this opportunity allowed me to speak the English language since my very early years of age and granted me a strong character to conquer every endeavor I decided to pursue.
I grew up spending half of my day with the daughters and sons of the wealthiest families in Monterrey who attended the same school as me. The other half of the day, I shared my time with friends who attended public schools, had more limited means, less interest in prosperity, and lived in the same neighborhood as me. This duality enabled me to a keen understanding and appreciation of opportunities and limitations in life. I developed a simple taste of things together with an almost inaccessible collection of desires that were later turned into goals. This is how I came to be so grounded and ambitious at the same time.
Fast forward to the present day. Early this year, I got laid off from the company I was working for since 2017. It was due to a company restructure during the COVID-19 moment. It was hard for me and I honestly didn't know what to do next—considering the global situation. I acknowledged this was a big opportunity for me to pursue my passion and start something new, something thrilling, something that really excited me. I had nothing preventing me from kick-starting my new dream business. I was disengaged from a company that absorbed my time from 9 to 5, therefore, it was my time to create and reach my own professional goals. Most importantly, I was empowered to promote myself; the problem was, I didn't know what my true passion looked like now. For the first time, I felt astray professionally and it was truly scary. I kept retrieving and latching onto my humble upbringing, my strong character, my long-established ambitions, my innate and recently acquired skills, and my high-end education. I had everything I needed to start over, so how could I feel so lost?
“It is impossible to keep knocking the same doors and still feel satisfied with what we find inside.”
One day, as I was watching Paola Alberdi on YouTube (she is a huge inspiration to me) I realized the basics of it all and it is grounded on the simplest concept ever: humans are in constant development and experiencing continuous evolvement. Therefore, it's pretty normal to notice our dreams transform into maturity and see our interests shift. Unavoidably, we are going to identify some new passions that arise and new purposes unfold as we move along. It is impossible to keep knocking the same doors and still feel satisfied with what we find inside. This is why we have to be curious, risky, and inquisitive to open new doors, find new opportunities, and take the plunge. This is how I decided to endeavor into lifestyle blogging. I was able to identify the novel things that got my stomach jumpy; I realized that my knowledge and taste in fashion and home decor are usually underlined by a motivational justification. My heart led me to believe that I had to share this with my contemporaries. This made me happy!
“'[It] was worth trying anyway.' This speaks powerfully to me.”
I realized I am in my forties now. I am a quadragenarian living in a world filled with unthought-of possibilities that help us transform our life in any way we desire. We have never been so close to reaching our dreams as we are now—and I've been around for the mid-70s, 80s, 90s, 2000, and 2010 decades. We have everything we need sitting in the palm of our hands. The only challenge we face is to acknowledge our true-selves and identify what is exactly what we have to offer to our communities. This is a real challenge because we are consistently influenced by others through social networks. Look inside yourself and discover your newest you and your latest dreams. It may not fall into place the first, second, or third time. It may not come to you immediately, yet, it doesn't matter how many times you have to start over, as long as you start. #Quadramorous is one of my many, many attempts to launch something new in my career; and, I will keep trying as long as I have a breath of life in my body. I allow myself to be influenced by stories of trial and error. For example, I often remember how #ElonMusk launched so many satellites after thinking that #SpaceX was going to fail, but still, he tried over and over. He once pointed out: “[It] was worth trying anyway.” This speaks powerfully to me.
The best thing you can do toward achieving your dreams is to start NOW, to move consistently, to persist, and don't give up. Endure the hard times and do not expect to see big results each day. Rather, make every day a result of the vision you once had. Feel proud of adding one more day of life to your dream, project, or new business. Acknowledge and appreciate what you are accomplishing regardless of how big or small it is—it's your own measurement system. And as a friendly reminder, life is what takes place every day in your presence, hence, turn every outcome into a successful story authored by [Your Name].
